To produce a PageSetter Utilities disk proceed as follows: Format a disk
with a name "PageSetter Utilities". Use arc to extract all of the files in
"PPIFF.arc". Because of the file name lengths constraints ot the arc program
you should rename the file PP.info to PagePrint.info . Please read the
"read_me" file for information on how to install these programs onto a
PageSetter system disk. PagePrint may also be used to print a PageSetter
document even if you don't yet own PageSetter. Please feel free to
distribute copies of this disk, but PLEASE do not alter the contents in any
way. All programs and data files on this disk remain Copyright Gold Disk
Inc. 1987 and may not be used for commercial gain without explicit written
permission from Gold Disk Inc.
Enjoy!!
PageSetter Document Utilities Disk Feb 10, 1987
------------------------------------------------
These programs are intended to replace the Utilities distributed on the
PageSetter V1.0 disk. In order to install them on your PageSetter disk
proceed as follows:
- From the CLI type:
Copy "PageSetter Utilities:Page#?" to PageSetter:
(type the line EXACTLY as you see it above)
- From the WorkBench:
1) Boot up the PageSetter disk and double click on the PageSetter
disk icon.
2) Insert the "PageSetter Utilities" disk (into the external drive
if you have one, into the internal drive if not) and double click
on it's disk icon. You should now have two windows open.
3) Move the PagePrint and PageIFF icons from the "PageSetter
Utilities" into the "PageSetter" window over the old icons.
4) That's all there is to it!
Contents of disk
----------------
PagePrint - This is a utility program which will allow you to print
documents saved by PageSetter without the need to run
PageSetter itself. Since PagePrint is a much smaller
program, this will allow you to easily print a document
in the background while running other applications. This
program will print all of the pages in the document in
order of page number. If you wish to print selected pages
from your document simply hit ESC when prompted to set
the paper to the top of form. This will skip printing
of the current page and allow you to proceed to the
particular page that you want. Note that in order for
PagePrint to properly print a document you must have your
printer preferences set to 1) B&W, 2) Aspect Horizontal,
3) Normal, and 4) a threshold value of about 2-4. Actually,
the threshold value should be a value between the intensity
of the ink and paper colour in the original PageSetter
document.
* If you find that printing a document from within the main PageSetter
program (from the "Department" menu) results in the printing of a
strip approx. 1.5" (about 4 cm.) and then skips some space (or ejects
the page) you will have to use PagePrint to print your document in
it's final form. This is due to an undocumented "feature" of the
printer.device and will be corrected in a future release of the
operating system. If you have any difficulties in this regard
please do not hesitate to call Gold Disk, or write to us at the
address given below. Note that due to a limitation in the HP LaserJet
driver supplied with the Amiga Workbench it will only allow the
printing of pages up to 10.6" in length. Anything on the page below
this will not be printed.
PageIFF - This is another utlity program which will output your
document in the form of an IFF graphics file. Each page
of the document will be put into a seperate file with the
name "<prefix>.IFF###" where <prefix> is a string
chosen by you and ### is the page number within the
document. As with PagePrint you may skip a page simply
by hitting ESC when prompted. Note that the files written
by PageIFF could be relatively large (up to 95,000 bytes
for an 8.5" x 11" page) and may use a lot of disk space.
Also, most Amiga graphics programs can read picture files
up to only 640x200 pixels (or 640x400 in interlace mode).
This corresponds to a page size of about 5.75" x 2.75"
(5.75" x 5.5" in interlace mode). If your page is larger
it may not be readable by these graphics programs. At the
time of the release of PageSetter V1.0 the only commercially
available product that can import such large pictures is
Deluxe Paint II.
* Both PagePrint and PageIFF can be run from Workbench or the CLI. To
run them from Workbench click on the document icon and, while holding
down the SHIFT key, double click on the PagePrint or PageIFF icon.
To run them from the CLI simply type: PagePrint <docname> where
<docname> is the name of the document you wish to print. If you run
them without a document name they will prompt you for a filename.
